While organizing your wedding, it is difficult to miss the tradition of the wedding cake. From the eternal pyramid of choux to the wedding cakes coming from our American friends, the trends evolve and the choices multiply. Beyond the aesthetic aspect of the wedding cake, other questions arise: how to have a beautiful cake if I have a small budget? Which wedding cake to choose if I have a few guests? Here is a small selection of ideas to consult and share without moderation!
The wedding cake is made of sugar paste, to show off
Coming straight from the United States, the
wedding cake in sugar paste appears recently in our French weddings. Real masterpieces of several floors, they are decorated with taste, boldness, and border on artistic performance!
Infinitely declinable, the ideas of decoration abound and some dare the personalization and the artistic challenges to make it even more original! However, be careful not to fall into excess and ridicule (I won’t give you an overview of the worst wedding cakes that have ever existed, the buzz sites or even Google are full of them).
Today, the trend is towards minimalism and geometric shapes. What do I like the most? The white, black, and gold wedding cakes, remind me of this so chic Gatsby side!
I do: I want originality and something to feed 150 food lovers, who are not afraid of sugar.
I don’t: if I’m looking for an explosion of flavour in my mouth, the wedding cake is not the best option. Most of these cakes are made with cream and the sugar paste doesn’t leave room for fruity flavours.
The naked cake: the ultra trendy must-have
Our American friends have already taken the trend to the next level. Today, it’s time for the naked cake! No more sugar paste, now we put the cake naked (naked = naked in English, so basically, naked cake = naked cake, you know what I mean?). To decorate the cake, we let Mother Nature take over! Real flowers, red fruits, branches.
Cupcake liners to mix taste and colours
You are faced with a big problem: Mr. Jules wants chocolate but your mother prefers a
strawberry cake, while your witness’s little one is lactose intolerant. What should you do?
To avoid taking too much trouble and ending up with an apple pie as a wedding cake, there is a solution: cupcakes!
Thanks to its format, you can mix the tastes to meet the requirements of all the guests. Just like the wedding cake made of sugar paste, cupcakes can be transformed and decorated endlessly!
My two favourites
Present the cupcakes in cups, for a stylish wedding chic effect.
Reproduce the shape of a wedding cake with tiered trays made from wooden slices: it’s like being in Snow
White’s forest!
I do: if I am looking for diversity, a mix of colours and tastes.
I don’t: if I have 200 guests to treat, making so many cupcakes will be expensive, and making a presentation will be very difficult.
Parisian chic: pyramids of macaroons
Hum, I’m already salivating at the thought of pistachio macaroons melting in my mouth, yum!
If you’re looking for a chic, elegant and flavourful cake, macaroons are for you!
On the same principle as cupcakes, macaroons come in a multitude of flavours and colours! A little more expensive, they will delight the refined palate of your guests.
However, be careful who you buy them from! Not everyone can claim to be an expert in macaroons! Before investing, ask for a tasting.
A little favourite: sprinkle the macaroons with gold glitter. So beautiful, you’d think you were in Marie-Antoinette’s boudoir!
